Idag kom grunddelarna till min Snowtrooper Commander ifrån Dan Laws (ÄNTLIGEN!!!) och kommer använda denna tråd till att visa bilder och framdrift av byggandet.

Målet är att ha denna klar och 501st godkänd inför våran resa till Finse där delar av ESB spelades in (Hoth)

Jag kommer att lägga upp bilder inom kort. Ville bara skapa denna tråd innan jag sätter mig ner och skriver en recesion utav Dan Laws Snow trooper Commander delar.

Måste bara sätta mig ner och översätta det.. men tills dess erbjuds ni den engelska versionen...

Ok so here is my review of the Dan Laws TS Commander Kit.

The helmet:

The helmet consists of 4 pieces which i have chosen to call front cowl, back cowl, dome and backplate.

The front and back cowl are held together with what appears to be a strip of fibreglass mat and resin

The cowl is then fastened to the dome and backplate with glue and bent strips of styrene making a nice gap for ventilation and fans later..

Crisp and clean pulls and i dare say excellent assembly

I feel the the cowl could have been pulled from a thicker plastic. It feels very thin fragile compared to the FX TK helmet i have and i foresee numerous repairs on the split between the front and back cowl from trooping, packing and unpacking.

Fore arms:

These came already assembled which i on the one hand don't mind but on the other hand find annoying since it will be much harder to make them the way that i want them to fit me. The hole at the end is just big enough for me to squeeze my hand through and anyone with large hands will have a hard time getting these on. This will also force me to find a way to make the gauntlet on my gloves wider at the base to accommodate the wide forearm armor. Other than that in true Star Wars fashion they are asymmetrical. One arm has 11 dents the other 12.

The sides are bevelled at 90 degres so the armour appear to be thicker than it really is. They feel a lot more sturdy even though they appear to be made out of the same thickness as the cowl.

The fact that they came pre-assembled makes it hard to do any modifications to them.

Other armour parts: Front armour, back armour, groin, shoulders, shoulder straps, belt..

Very good, clean and crisp pulls. They feel very sturdy and are made out of a thicker plastic than the other pieces and will surely stand up to trooping a lot better than the other pieces. May rival the FX kit in trooping durability.. time will tell..

Good pulls with excellent detail where required. The belt piece even has small indentations on where the greedible should be

Not really applicable to the pieces themselves but a mounting instruction for the back armour and front armour with all the greedibles would have been good. Also a greedible which i assume is to be placed on the front armour doesn't fit and will need to be trimmed. But this may have been the case anyway.

Hands:

This is where the disappointments start... These are VERY asymmetrical... so asymmetrical to a point that i start to wonder if one of them was a mistake. One is considerably smaller than the other and the angles one the other are more extreme than the other. They are also made out of thin plastic which i can't understand why. There are no details to justify not using the same type of plastic as on the front armour. I'm seriously considering buying a different set of hand pieces from another seller and replace these.

Everything. But maybe they were supposed to be crap to be screen accurate..?? Rolling Eyes

Thermal Detonator:

Nothing special about this.. after the crisp pulls on the other parts i was a bit disappointed at the pull of the details... i somehow expected the same quality as on the other pulls...

Same as the hands. I'm hoping to get some good reference as to how these are supposed to sit on the belt. If it is TK style or TS style.. .

Greedibles:

These were all included in a small bag that unfortunately had ripped. Hopefully i am not missing any parts... but since there is no packing list or any other documents for reference i have no idea. I assume that the flat sheet is to go in the cavity on the front armour but it will need trimming to fit. Also it would have been nice with an assembly guide.

There is no clean up required on the greedibles.

Could have come with some reference as to where which piece is intended to go. (even the FX kit comes with a booklet as does the SS props TS kit)

Gjorde klart vapnet nu i helgen.. Inte 1000% screen accurate DL-44 men nära nog för att funka till min TS Commander med tanke på de futtiga referense bilderna..
